From Elder Lisa’s Heart…
SPRING HAS SPRUNG, and with it come fresh evidence of God’s handiwork—nature is blooming, colors are bursting forth, birds are singing, and even the smallest signs of life are stirring all around us.
All during the month of March, we celebrated and recognized women during Women’s History month. All of us have one or two spectacular women—whether she was “Meemaw, Mama, Nana, Ma, Granny, or TT”—to celebrate in our own lives. Women who nurtured us, encouraged us, disciplined us, and stayed on their knees praying for us. My sisters and I recognize and celebrate one spectacular woman, my beautiful mother (and my sisters), Sis Adell Marie Jenkins Hubbard, for through her courage, strength, resilience, and patience, I was equipped to become the woman and pastor I am today. My celebration of strong and courageous women continues despite what month it is! Throughout Women’s History Month, God spoke directly to our hearts with messages to encourage all women (and a few men too!). In the sermon titled, “You Can’t Keep a Good Woman Down,” based on Psalm 46: (NIV), where it says God is our refuge and the source of strength. This text brings to mind the story of Naomi. We find Naomi mourning the loss of her husband, but God giving her enduring strength. She did not lose her faith; God had a different plan! Do not dare give up on God! God was within her! God is within you!! And, God can do ANYTHING but fail!
Then, God reminded us of “A Leading Lady.” Gleaned from Judges 4:4, Deborah is the only female Judge to sit in judgement of Israel. She was unafraid. She was a trailblazer. She was a prophetess and a strategist. She was/is the epitome of a “Leading Lady.” God gave her everything she needed to judge Israel, and He gave her the victory, resulting in Deborah judging and leading Israel into 40 years of peace! Not only did Deborah lead, but we learn of a plot twist, when another woman, named Jael, was used by God to deliver the enemy into Barak’s hands. I told you there was a plot twist! (read Judges 4:17-21) Do you want to be a Leading Lady? You can be…if you seek, trust, and 0bey God.
And surely, you have heard the adage, ‘Silence is golden”? Well, on Sunday, March 22, our Lord challenged that adage, with a sermon, “Silence Is Not Always Golden,” based on Esther 4:12. We considered the question, “What does it mean to be on assignment as a woman of God?’ In this familiar bible story, Esther refused to remain silent. She had to be bold and courageous to approach the king to save the Jewish citizens from annihilation. Have you been called to speak up, but remained silent? In these present perilous times, Christians, have been called by God: to help those in need, to deliver assistance, to witness about God’s grace and mercy, to call sinners to repent, and, to win souls to Christ. What is your assignment in Christ?
On Palm Sunday, God told us to “Take the Time to Celebrate!” Psalm 146:1-10 Do not wait for a reason. Women’s History Month is over, keep celebrating women! Lenten Season ended. Keep celebrating! Resurrection Sunday over? Keep celebrating!! JESUS IS RISEN!! Do not stop celebrating! Always praise the Lord. Tell Him you appreciate Him. Tell Him you remember what He has already done! Do not stop celebrating HIM!
